Chir Chir (치르치르) Korean Fried Chicken at Somerset, Singapore

By this time you guys should have known  that I have a profound love for South Korea.Their pop culture, their make up, and of course their food!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!

One of the korean food that I love is their Korean fried chicken. I don't really know why, but Korean Fried Chicken is... somewhat different compared to KFC or McDonalds although I cannot say that the latter is less tasty.

Korean fried chicken has this unique seasoning taste that people cannot get bored of and most of them claims that they are using healthy, low fat chicken. With the increasing concern of healthy food, the hype of Korean culture, and the tasty chicken, no wonder the Korean Fried Chicken is now one of the world's phenomenon. The franchise of this business has spread across nations. 

I have been to and tried couple of Korean Fried Chicken in Jakarta, namely Bonchon, Chili Jeans, Kyochon, Kkuldakk, etc. 

       

This time, I will review my experienced in Singapore, with Chir Chir Korean Fried Chicken. 

One of my very close friend are working and living at Singapore, one of the country with quite large amount of Overseas Korean nearby. They have a lot of good and innovative Korean restaurant. 

Chir Chir Chicken has been a hype recently, following couple of big instagram food bloggers who come for a visit and recommending this restaurant on their blog. 

The restaurant was located at the #B3-04-06 of Somerset mall, in Singapore. 

B3 stands for Basement 3 and I foolishly go to 3rd FL.

Anyway, the price of the food is quite high, ranging from SGD 26-30++ but the portion is amazingly huge!

We ordered a Salad. I honestly forget the name of the salad, but do not worry, there are not many option to choose from.

The salad is fresh and sourish. It is a good appetizer and it has great amount of chicken in it as well. 

Simply delicious.

For the main course, we are having Garlicky Tenders for $26.90.

It is so good! the chickens come in abundance and they have roasted tokpoki and garlic!

I love roasted tokpoki and even though I dislike garlic, I ate it!

If you manage to notice, they provide the cute mini-fork/tongs so that you don't need to use your hands on the food. It is quite sturdy and practical. Not to mention cute! Hehe!

The service is spot on and the food is delicious. It worth the price!

Forest Fires in Pontianak, West Borneo, Indonesia 2015

Among the citizen of Pontianak (West Borneo), we have the inside joke saying that we are living in an area with 3 seasons: the dry season, wet season, and smog/haze season. 

(We only have dry and wet season, obviously)

This is the natural causes of the forest fires that causes haze all over Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore.
The human causes is the forest clearing for industry purposes (palm oil and paper) by unauthorized company (illegal)
The island on the far left is the Sumatra Island and the island on its left is Borneo Island.
Both are the main hot spots areas.
The worse area of the haze is Riau, Pekan Baru, Sumartra.

Haze is not uncommon as is anticipated each an every year during the peak of dry season. By this time of the year, the air will be so filthy that it looks pretty much like the movie Silent Hill.

Schools are closed as the air is very unhealthy. Face masks are being distributed every where. People are advised to stay at home. The visibility on the road is pretty bad that people are turning on the vehicles light even in mid noon. The visibility on the sky in worse as dozens of flights are being cancelled and airlines company are making loses everyday. The fisherman cannot sail as well. 

I am not joking about how bad it is. It was in the news every single day now (even on international news, like bbc) and this years haze is might be the worse that we have ever experienced so far. 

Indonesia Forest Fire

Due to the fire, the forest coverage areas in Indonesia is getting smaller and smaller. 

The level of deforestation in Indonesia is the second after Brazil.

The Borneo Island of Indonesia. We can see that the forest (green areas) are is getting smaller and smaller each year. This is caused by illegal logging and forest fires.

I actually got an eye infection from the haze and there are a lot of people are getting lungs infections (ISPA: Infeksi Saluran Pernapasan Akut/Acute Respiratory Infection). Here is the report from the local newspaper about the hazardous air. Pontianak, West Borneo (KalBar) is where I lived. I provide some translation.

Green (Good), Yellow (Medium), Brown (Unhealthy), Red (Very Unhealthy), Purple (Dangerous)
Now we have exceed the purple areas by a super-huge-skyrocketing margin

This is no joke. The moment you step outside your home, it is difficult to breath. The air is so acrid and there are a lot of white stuff (like burned stuff) flying in the air. There are less people on the street. It feels like a semi-apocalypse from a dystopian movie where the zombie will suddenly jump out of no where. 

Local government is trying hard to solve this issues by making the artificial rain (which is expensive). Senior executives from large companies suspected of illegal forest clearing are being caught. Our military personals (ABRI) has been assigned to help extinguished the fire at the forest. However, not much changes happens.

I just hope that it rains soon and the haze ends soon. I am tired of having a difficulty only to breath. I thought 'air' is suppose to be free. But may be in the near future, we or our children each have to carry an oxygen tank as our backpack because the oxygen level on earth is not enough anymore. 

I understand that we cannot do anything much about the natural causes of the forest fires. We are living in tropical areas (passed by the equator line) and it is a dry season. Even slight scrapping of dry twigs due to wind blowing can set a whole forest on fire. However, I am very sad, and disappointed and ashamed by the human caused of the fire. #prayforindonesia

Update: 
It finally rained on 18/9 and 19/9 and since then, the air started to clear a little bit. Now the sun rays can penetrate the layers of haze. I think the temperature has gone higher now. 
The haze returns on 22 September. The white dust flies in the air and I think it is going to be worse in couple days. 

My Journey to Trick Eye Museum, Singapore

I went to Singapore during their Golden Week this year, on 7th to 9th August 2015. 9th August is Singapore's Independence day and this year is their 50th year of independence!! There is a big big celebration going on. 

It was a sudden trip, planned less than 24 hours LOL. I feel a bit ripped off honestly as the rental fee for rooms is skyrocketing. I pay SGD 120/ night for a room at Lucky Plaza. 

Anyway, I went to Trick Eye Museum Singapore. I have been wanting to go since I saw the post from eatandtreats last june.

To reach the museum, you need to take taxi, or cable car to Sentosa Island from Vivo City. Take note that you will need a balance of SGD 4 (return ticket) in your EZ link card or you will have to queue to purchase the ticket. 

I highly recommended this museum for you all, vain people! LOL! 

You can buy the tickets online on the website here for additional 20% discount and immediate entry (no need to queue for ticket), you still need to queue when your ticket is scanned, though. 

I saved mine on my phone and show it to the employee at the front door. The tickets look like this and they have barcodes as attachment.

Alright, keep in mind that there will be a renovation coming soon as the email comes with a notice. 

You can find this notice on their website as well, so check it first, before you plan your visit to avoid inconvenience. 

Anyway, lets talk about what's in the museum!!

This is actually my second time to trickeye museum, the fist is at Jeju, South Korea. Yet I am still always amaze by the quality of the illusion!
